SOS Committees and Partner Organizations

Surface Officers' Spouses Club offers our members various ways to get involved within the surface community. While volunteering does require you to be reliable and commit a certain amount of time, SOS offers different opportunities depending on the free time you have available. It is a way to enjoy the social atmosphere of SOS and utilize your talents to give back to our community while learning more about our surface community.

Spouses from the USS SAN DIEGO

There are few happier moments in our lives than when we greet our sailors and officers home from deployment. Join us as we team up with our sister organization, Surface Enlisted Spouses, to support our fellow spouses as their loved ones return home.

Have a good camera and enjoy photography? This is an opportunity to capture special moments for your friends, officers, sailors and their family members. We send a photo gallery from each Homecoming back to the Ombudsman or FRG President on the ship so that the photos go out to the families on the ship.

CO/XO Group
Calling all CO/XO spouses and incoming CO/XO spouses. Let the good times roll! Wear your lucky charms and come out to roll the dice at one of our monthly Bunco nights. This is a relaxed way to meet and socialize with other surface command spouses.

New Spouses
Remember your first few years as a Navy spouse and/or fiancé? You may or may not have had an active wardroom, you just moved to a new area, perhaps you did not know many people, and most likely your spouse or fiancé was out at sea, if not deployed, much of the time. Our New Spouse group is an outlet for those of you engaged or married 3 years or less in the Navy. The group holds monthly events with the goal of creating lifelong friendships. We also welcome all the awesome male spouses in our community. Event details will continue to be posted on our Facebook Page and if you meet a new Navy surface spouse, please encourage them to like SOS on Facebook and to join in on the FUN! 

PARTNERED ORGANIZATIONS

(NOSC) Naval Officers Spouses Club
While our organization enjoys bringing together officer spouses from within the large Navy surface community here in San Diego, we also know it is important to get out and meet spouses in the greater Navy community. NOSC offers you the opportunity to meet people within other communities such as aviation, supply, medical, special operations and many more. 

NOSC San Diego is a private, non-profit organization devoted to the support of military service personnel and their family members throughout San Diego County. We promote the interests of the active duty and retired military community in the San Diego area. (CORE) Continuum of Resources Education

While Surface Officers' Spouses Club is a social club, The Continuum of Resources Education (CORE) program's purpose is educational. This program is open to all leadership, JO, and CMC/COB spouses and was successfully implemented in Norfolk, VA and Honolulu, HI. Last year CORE led symposiums for CO/XO spouses and in 2012/2013 we are growing the San Diego branch to offer symposiums to all spouses.

The CORE mission is to establish a continuing series of conferences tailored specifically for CO/XO, CMC/COB and Junior Officer Spouses to enhance and develop their leadership skills to meet the unique challenges of the military lifestyle. Each CORE group will have workshops tailored to meet their unique challenges and facilitate various ways for spouses from various communities to work together toward individual and common goals. Experienced members from the different Navy communities will present each series.
